Protection from Rock Falls

TerraLite as part of an Energy Dissapation System over extension tunnels

TerraLite blocks can be used to dissipate the energy from falling rocks, in order to protect access tunnels and other structures near such hazards.

In the illustration to the right, a body of sand is placed above the TerraLite in order to dissipate the rock's kinetic energy by "splashing" out. The remaining energy is dissipated through the elastic compression of the TerraLite blocks.

For this type of application, it is generally advisable to use the higher density, "harder" Terralite, such as Type IX.
