TerraLite™ blocks can be used to dissipate the energy from falling rocks, in order to protect access tunnels and other structures near such hazards.

In the illustration to the right, a body of sand is placed above the TerraLite™ in order to dissipate the rock's kinetic energy by "splashing" out. The remaining energy is dissipated through the elastic compression of the TerraLite™ blocks.

For this type of application, it is generally advisable to use the higher density, "harder" TerraLite™, such as Type IX.
